Discover the World and the World Inside You: An Inner Journey That Costs Nothing

Discover the World and Discover the World Inside You

While I was young — and honestly, throughout most of my life — I often heard this statement: “Discover the world and discover the world inside you.” Both sound inspirational in their own way, yet it was the latter that profoundly gripped me and held my focus.

Discovering the world usually means having the freedom to travel, to roam globally, to see cultures, meet new people (because first-hand experiences always win), try new dishes, and learn something fresh at every stop. But let’s be honest — for that, you need finances. Without resources, the wonder remains at arm’s length.

The latter — discovering the world inside you — is something different. It feels like a work of art in its own domain. And somehow, though I don’t have the means to explore the physical world as much as I wish, I have begun exploring the universe within me.

I am not claiming I’ve reached some grand conclusion about myself. Far from it. But what I have realized is this: the more I witness the outer world — even if only through the small window of a laptop or the glowing screen of a mobile phone — the more I recognize how deeply it reflects the inner one. Technology has given us access to watch, almost in real time, how the world is changing and why it is changing.

Yet, a question lingers: is it really changing for the better? Or is it a façade we are stepping into blindly? The reality, I suspect, is hidden elsewhere. Perhaps it lies not in the endless stream of images and news updates, but in the quiet discoveries we make when we look inward — when we confront our own fears, nurture our hopes, and make peace with our contradictions.

Maybe that is the ultimate journey: to explore the external world when we can, but to never forget the infinite world inside us that waits, patiently, to be uncovered.

Have you ever come across a proverb or saying from your own culture — or another — that reminded you of this balance between the outer journey and the inner one? And what’s your take on this reflection?
