Do You Like the Rain or the Sun
Episode 1 — The Scribbled Beginning
There was a separate wall in our school. You know the one: front-facing, crowded with all sorts of scribbles—from smiley faces and motivational quotes, to the classic “Ali + Sana forever” declarations that rarely lasted past lunch break.
One day, while wandering near that wall during recess, I noticed something odd. Behind one of the front panels, hidden like a secret in plain sight, were faint, careful words scrawled across the plaster. I leaned closer, heart skipping a little.
It wasn’t random doodles. It was a quote from a book I loved: “The Endless Summer Love.”
And right beneath it, someone had written:
“Do you like rain or do you like sunrise?”
I froze. Who writes like that on a school wall? And more importantly… why did it feel like they were speaking just to me?
I glanced around. No one was watching. With a mischievous grin, I picked up a marker I’d been carrying for another doodle and replied:
“I like early hours of sunrise (dawn).”
The next day, I ran back to the wall like a kid checking if their crush texted back. And there it was—a new line, neat and playful:
“So, you’re a dawn person. I’m a rain person. Maybe that’s why walls exist—to bring opposites together.”
I laughed out loud. “Walls exist to bring opposites together?” Who even says that? But I didn’t care. Somehow, the thought that someone, somewhere, knew about my favorite thing in the world—dawn—made me feel like we already shared a secret.
From then on, recess wasn’t just recess anymore. It was my daily little adventure, racing to the wall, checking for new scribbles, and wondering about the person behind the words.
And that’s how it started. A secret conversation on a school wall, hidden in plain sight, with someone I had never seen, but whose words somehow already felt like they knew me.
But as for what happened after our first actual conversation… well, that’s a whole other story. Curious to know what’s coming next?
